Fairfield Township, located in the northwest corner of Essex County, covers 105 square miles and is home to a little over 7,000 people.
The town is also home to Essex County airport and many businesses that line or are near Route 46 (the township is bisected by Interstate 80 and Route 46). Fairfield has many office buildings/office parks, industrial/warehouse properties, some hotels, and restaurants. Shoppers can take a quick ride to Willowbrook Mall and Wayne Town Centre in neighboring Wayne, or enjoy shopping and dining in downtown Caldwell, NJ.
Most of the residential properties in town are multi-story single family residences, but there are also a few condos. Two historic sites of note in Fairfield are the Van Ness House, constructed in 1720, which was added in 1977 to the National Register of Historic Places; and the Fairfield Dutch Reformed Church, which dates back to 1720, with its current structure built in 1804.

Fairfield has two public schools: Adlai E. Stevenson School (pre-K through third grade) and Winston S. Churchill Upper Elementary School (fourth through sixth grades). The Gramon School, a private school for middle and high school-aged students, is also located in town. Public high school students attend classes at West Essex High School in nearby Caldwell Township.
The Fairfield Free Public Library offers many programs for residents of all ages, and the recreation department has plenty of activities for children, adults and seniors, and there are small neighborhood parks as well as larger multi-use parks for residents to enjoy.
The tax rate is a little lower in Fairfield than in some surrounding Essex County towns because of all the commercial property located there. [this is my surmise based on some quick research on r.e. taxes in some towns – can someone confirm if this is true?]

Fairfield real estate facts:
